Before you rely on TerraWarn in an emergency, read this
TerraWarn is an information and preparedness tool. It is nota substitute for official emergency services, professional medical advice, or your local authorities. In an emergency, always contact your local emergency number directly. The in-app SOS screen does not contact emergency services or transmit your location — it only opens your phone's own call/message screen to a number you choose.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the TerraWarn mobile app and terrawarn.com (together, the "Service"), operated by TerraWarn ("we", "us"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service. By using TerraWarn, you confirm that you meet this requirement.
2. What TerraWarn is — and isn't
TerraWarn aggregates public hazard data (earthquakes, wildfires, volcanoes, severe storms, and more over time) and provides preparedness tools: guides, an emergency kit tracker, a medical profile, family status sharing, and a facility finder.
- TerraWarn is not an emergency response service and cannot dispatch help.
- Hazard data comes from third parties (USGS, NASA EONET, and others) and is provided "as is" — we don't guarantee it is complete, accurate, or up to date at the moment you view it.
- Medical information you enter supports first responders if you choose to show it to them; it does not replace professional medical records or advice.
- Always follow instructions from local authorities over anything shown in the app.
3. Accounts
You can use most of TerraWarn as a guest, with no account. If you register, you're responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which permanently removes your synced data as described in our Privacy Policy.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for anything unlawful, or to endanger, harass, or defraud others.
- Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its data sources.
- Scrape, resell, or redistribute TerraWarn's data at scale without permission.
- Submit false emergency or family-status information intended to mislead others.
We may suspend or terminate access for accounts that violate these Terms.
5. Third-party data & content
Hazard, map, and facility data displayed in TerraWarn is sourced from the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program, NASA EONET, OpenStreetMap contributors, OpenFreeMap, and Esri, among others. Each is provided under its own terms and we don't control their accuracy, availability, or update frequency. Links to these or other external sources are provided for convenience; we're not responsible for third-party content.
6. Advertising
TerraWarn is free and funded by advertising served through Google AdMob (app) and Google AdSense (website). We keep ads out of Emergency Mode, SOS, live hazards, and alerts. See our Privacy Policy for how ad personalization consent works.
7. Intellectual property
The TerraWarn name, logo, and app/site design are ours. Guide and preparedness content is either original or sourced from official public-safety guidance; underlying hazard data belongs to its original providers. You may not use our branding without permission.
8. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT HAZARD DATA WILL BE TIMELY, ACCURATE, OR UNINTERRUPTED, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TERRAWARN WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF LIFE, INJURY, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR RELIANCE ON THE SERVICE — INCLUDING RELIANCE ON HAZARD DATA, PREPAREDNESS GUIDANCE, OR MEDICAL INFORMATION YOU STORE IN THE APP. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold TerraWarn harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Morocco, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Morocco, except where local consumer protection law gives you the right to bring a claim in your own country of residence.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as the Service changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above, and continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
